Savannah Nightlife: A River Runs Through It!
If you think the good times in Savannah stop when the sun goes down, think again! Savannah nightlife features something for everyone from singles in search of a party to families celebrating a happy occasion. With its eclectic mix of art, history, and southern charm, Savannah nightlife raises the bar beyond mere entertainment.
River Street is a hotspot in Savannah during the day. At night, it’s positively on fire. The walkways along the riverfront fill with tourists and locals alike all in search of a good time. Many of the area’s restaurants and bars here feature live music. If you go, check out Kevin Barry’s Irish Pub. Or, for a little different flair, try hanging out at the Bayou Café. Of course, the locals will tell you to try them all: a popular past time is wandering in and out of the various venues throughout the evening to experience the ambience of each place. The Maritime Festival takes place on River Street each August, and adds to the excitement. During this time, you can experience even more fun with the addition of food stalls, beer and wine, concerts, and dancing right there under the stars, courtesy of temporarily-installed dance flooring. There’s even a fireworks display. Let the good times roll!
The City Market provides a more casual option to experiencing Savannah nightlife. Several venues here offer jazz, blues, and swing bands during the dinner hours, allowing diners to enjoy good food and good company with a two step twist. Try the Bottom Line or the City Market Café on for size. Or, if you want to party into the wee hours of the morning, check out Crossroads, where you can listen to and sing the blues until 3:00 AM six nights a week.
If none of these float your boat, consider taking a different approach to Savannah nightlife. Try catching a few laughs at the Comedy House Theatre on Mall Boulevard. Also, the Savannah Civic Center on West Oglethorpe often has shows featuring popular acts and musicians, including the Savannah Symphony, the Savannah Theatre Company, and the Savannah Ballet Theatre. And be sure to check out local talent performing in the town squares or at the malls. The City Lights Theatre Company also features local productions throughout the year, including an annual Shakespeare on the Square event each May. Savannah nightlife is ripe with opportunities to see and be seen. There is sure to be something there to please everyone year round!
